This initial session set the stage for the workshop by presenting the OECD Development Centre’s project on the interrelations between public policies, migration and development of partner countries. The presentation covered the project’s objectives as well as a conceptual framework on the different interactions between public policies, migration and development.

Focus of the session
Migration can be an important enabler for development, but it can also prevent emigration countries from adopting adequate structural reforms. This session focused on both the benefits and costs of migration in terms of economic and social development.

Focus of the session
This session focused on the current migration policies in Cambodia. In particular, it examined public policies and institutional programmes that foster the human development of migrants and the development potential of emigration. During the session, participants also discussed institutional co-ordination between policies and programmes and how Cambodia tackles the issue of immigration.
