The COVID-19 crisis has hit Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) harder than any other region in the world, largely because of its pre-existing economic and social weaknesses. As a result, the region has lost over a million lives and suffered a 7.7% drop in GDP. As LAC countries chart their paths to recovery, how can development models evolve to break the vicious circles that held them back even before the crisis struck? And since national responses alone are not enough to overcome a crisis of global scale, what new international partnerships can support a long-term recovery?

At this critical juncture for Latin America and the Caribbean, the EU Regional Facility on Development in Transition (DiT) is facilitating a series of Dialogues to chart new paths for Latin America and the Caribbean. Partners including the OECD and its Development Centre, ECLAC and the European Commission (INTPA) have joined forces with key regional institutions to contribute, through analysis and debate, to shaping new development models for a sustainable and inclusive recovery in LAC.

The Dialogues will assess the policy priorities for the region in four areas: trade and global value chains; social protection systems; healthcare; and regional and international partnerships. These webinars are an opportunity to take stock of valuable experiences and ideas for a sustainable and inclusive recovery in LAC. An endeavour that will also contribute to strengthening the longstanding partnership between LAC and Europe for improving people’s well-being.
