Public discontent has surged around the world since the global financial crisis of 2008-09. COVID-19 exacerbated grievances and the social fractures that drive unrest. This Talk will discuss findings from the Perspectives on Global Development Report 2021: From protest to progress?, published by the OECD Development Centre.

The study focuses on the nature and causes of discontent in developing countries, including across Africa. It outlines responses that could improve livelihoods, strengthen social cohesion and address the grand challenges societies confront.
