This workshop provided another opportunity for African countries to discuss and debate practical market-infrastructure issues which are of major concern for debt managers in the African debt markets.
The main topics for discussion included:
The workshop targeted senior debt managers and other officials involved in debt management operations and development of government bond markets, as well as investors, intermediaries, and other service providers in the financial markets.
The agenda was compiled in consultation with African debt managers and in particular with the members of the Steering Committee for the OECD project on African Public Debt Management and Bond Markets (with representatives from the OECD and African countries such as Gabon, Tanzania, Uganda and South Africa).
This event is part of the OECD Project on African Public Debt Management and Bond Markets, sponsored by the Icelandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The National Treasury of South Africa and the Bond Exchange of South Africa were local hosts for the regional workshop.
