The 7th Asia Network on Corporate Governance of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) took place in Bandung, Indonesia on 3-4 July 2012. The Network is a platform for a structured policy dialogue and an exchange of practical experiences in corporate governance of state-owned enterprises in Asia.
The theme for this year’s Network meeting was Professionalisation of SOEs. It concerns national efforts to make SOEs operate and be governed like any other companies – effectively moving them away from being perceived as “extensions of the State”. The discussions focused on the boards of directors of SOEs and the organisation of the State’s ownership function.
Along with policy makers and corporate governance practitioners, the meeting attracted representatives from individual SOEs for the formation of an Asian SOE Companies Circle, including prominent representatives of the region’s Oil and Gas and Telecommunications sectors.
