Assessing progressTwenty-four of the developing countries that undertook the 2011 Paris Declaration Monitoring Survey chose to also pilot the survey’s gender equality module. Our report compiles the main findings. Empowering rural womenCompared to men, women generally have limited access to key opportunities, productive resources, local services and social protection. To strengthen support for rural women, we teamed up with the United Nations in a workshop in Addis Ababa on 31 January-1 February 2012. Aid in support of gender equality and women’s empowermentIn 2009-10, DAC members committed USD 25 billion yearly to gender equality. Aid effectiveness and gender equalityTo speed up the process of meeting international development goals, we work on developing strategies for aid to promote gender equality and women's empowerment in a way that is effective and delivers results. When it comes to managing public finances, using the techniques of gender-responsive public financial management can both strengthen gender equality and enhance economic growth. Our series of briefs delve into the what, why, where and how of making the most of aid to promote gender equality. |
Women's economic empowermentWomen's economic empowerment is a prerequisite for sustainable development and for achieving the Millennium Development Goals. And economic empowerment is also a right. There is no quick fix: women's economic empowerment takes sound public policies, a holistic approach and long-term commitment from all development actors. Donors can also increase their investment. Funding gender equalityIn 2009-10, the aid spent by DAC members on gender equality amounted to more than USD 25 million per year. Among DAC members, Germany was the largest donor, followed by France, the United Kingdom and Japan. We publish analytical reports on aid to gender equality based on reporting from DAC members, looking at different sectors and breaking the data down by donor. |
