The DAC Policy Statement on Biodiversity

The DAC Policy Statement on Integrating Biodiversity and Associated Ecosystem Services into Development Co-operation outlines 30 key actions that international donors can help to halt to loss of biodiversity and  associated ecosystems. The OECD Development Assistance Committee endorsed this Statement on 15 April, 2010.

It stresses that many of the world’s biodiversity-rich areas are located in developing countries, and that the poor are particularly and often directly dependent on sound viable ecosystems for their livelihoods. Therefore, development co-operations must mainstream biodiversity and associated ecosystems in all aspects of development co-operation.

Donors can enhance such biodiversity mainstreaming through four channels.

1. By supporting country partners
2. By bringing change within the donor agencies
3. By encouraging OECD governments to adopt pro-biodiversity policies
4. By engaging in global-level dialogues to raise the profile of biodiversity in development policies.

Donors committed to track and report their progress on these processes.
