07/02/2013 - The OECD Working Group on Bribery in International Business Transactions (WGB) is a multilateral body that monitors implementation of the 1997 Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions. The Anti-Bribery Convention is the only legally binding instrument globally to focus solely on the supply of bribes to foreign public officials. The OECD Secretary-General serves as the Depository of this Convention. The WGB, a recognized leader in the fight against foreign bribery, comprises 40 State Parties who meet in Paris four times per year to monitor progress in implementing an appropriate legal framework and enforcing laws to prevent foreign bribery by their nationals and companies. This review process culminates in peer review country reports containing recommendations, which are publicly available on the OECD website.
The WGB is seeking to designate a dynamic individual from one of its Member countries to become its new Chair and to lead the body in its week-long, quarterly meetings (March, June, October and December). The role of the Chair is to organise the agenda for each of the plenary meetings and lead the WGB through its detailed peer reviews. The successful candidate will also be expected to play a leading role in forming and upholding policy for the Group and representing such policies in relevant international fora, when appropriate. The Chair coordinates with and is supported by the OECD Anti-Corruption Division, which, under the authority of the Secretary-General, serves as the Secretariat to the WGB.
Terms and conditions
The successful candidate would be expected to serve a term of four or at maximum five years, subject to annual renewal by the WGB. In order to ensure a smooth transition from the current Chairmanship, it is preferred that the successful candidate will attend the Working Group on Bribery meetings of October and December 2013 at OECD headquarters in Paris and will further take the appointment as Chair in January 2014. Expenses in connection with the Chair’s duties will be covered, subject to the decision by the WGB; no other compensation will be paid.
