11/3/2010 - OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría expressed his congratulations to Chile’s new President, Sebastián Piñera, on the occasion of his inauguration, and assured him of the support of the OECD in tackling both reconstruction following the recent earthquake and in relation to longer-term policy challenges.
“You take office at a challenging moment. Under your leadership, Chile will rebuild its infrastructures and overcome the tragic setbacks caused by the recent earthquake. You will also preside over Chile’s accession to the OECD as its 31st member”, Mr. Gurría wrote in a letter to Mr. Piñera.
“You can count on our help and support in the priority policy area of reconstruction, but also in relation to longer-term challenges such as education and sustainable green growth. The OECD stands ready to support Chile in these challenging times. We look forward to working closely with you and your government.”
