OECD Roundtable on Cities and Regions for the SDGs

4th OECD Roundtable

The SDGs as a framework for long-term COVID-19 recovery strategies in cities and regions

 29 - 30 June 2021 12:00-15:00

 Agenda    I    Presentations   I   Participants  I   Highlights

The 3rd OECD Roundtable on Cities and Regions for the SDGs clearly highlighted the relevance of the SDGs in times of the COVID-19 pandemic for cities and regions. The pandemic has set back parts of the progress made on the 2030 Agenda, but also illustrated how powerful political decision can be taken in exceptional circumstances. The SDGs offer a clear and stable framework to guide governments in shaping a transformative recovery from COVID-19. The transformative nature of the 2030 Agenda provides a key opportunity for national, regional and local governments to promote a new sustainable development paradigm and to move towards a resilient recovery from COVID-19.

Building on the results of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Roundtables, this 4th edition will bring together key stakeholders from cities, regions, national governments, the private sector, civil society, academia, philanthropy and international organisations to:

  • Present the preliminary findings of the OECD-CoR Survey and the good practices of frontrunner cities and regions to understand how the SDGs can help them implement long-term COVID-19 recovery strategies
  • Launch three new OECD pilot reports on A Territorial Approach to the SDGs, and chart the way forward to implement the recommendations on the ground
  • Shape high level Principles on city-to-city partnerships to localise the SDGs developed in the framework of the Italian G20 Presidency
  • Discuss the role of higher education institutions to support cities and regions in achieving the SDGs
