Visit of the OECD Secretary-General to India (New Delhi, 15-16 October 2012)

During his visit to India, Secretary-General Angel Gurría will participate and deliver opening remarks at the 4th OECD World Forum on Statistics, Knowledge and Policy on “Measuring Well-Being for Development and Policy Making”, jointly organised with the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India.

Building on the Better Life Initiative, the main objectives of the Forum are to further the discussions on the different aspects that make for a good life today and in the future in different countries of the world and to promote the development and use of new measures of well-being for effective and accountable policy-making. Thus, an important expected outcome of the Forum is to contribute to the post-2015 development agenda.

The four-day Forum will gather around 1,000 participants from all over the world, including policy-makers as well as representatives from international organisations, national statistical offices, government agencies, academia and civil society.

In New Delhi, the Secretary-General will also meet with several high-level representatives from Indian government and business, including:

• Mr. Shri Srikant Kumar Jena, Minister of State, Statistics and Programme Implementation
• Mr. Shri Veerappa Moily, Minister of Power and Corporate Affairs
• Mr. Chakravarthi Rangarajan, Chairman, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister
• Mr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission
  
  

In these meetings, Mr. Gurría will present a tailor-made OECD Policy Brochure on India, which includes key policy advice to India in a wide range of areas that are critical to India’s long term prospects, such as: education, health, financial sector, competition, regulation, innovation, infrastructure, poverty reduction policies, employment, energy efficiency, and green policies.

During his visit, Mr. Gurría will also participate in an interactive session with Indian industrialists to discuss the global economic situation, the outlook for the Indian economy and the OECD-India cooperation.
