Mr. Angel Gurría, Secretary-General of the OECD, participated by video message in the opening ceremony of the 3rd edition of the Paris Peace Forum (PPF), on 12 November 2020, alongside fifty Chiefs of State and Government, and Heads of International Organisations.
In the context of the PPF, the Secretary-General also spoke at the Panel Building Back Better: Aligning Finance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Paris Agreement, alongside Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Secretary of State to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, France; Achim Steiner, Administrator, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); and Shinta Widjaja Kamdani, CEO of Sintesa Group, Member of the Global Investors for Sustainable Development (GISD) Alliance.
Mr. Angel Gurría also delivered a video message for the Finance in common summit. The session was introduced by Emmanuel Macron, President, French Republic. The Secretary-General spoke alongside Macky Sall, President of the Republic of Senegal; Carlos Alvarado Quesada, President of the Republic of Costa Rica; Alberto Fernández, President of Argentina; Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director, International Monetary Fund; Alok Sharma, Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, United Kingdom, and President of COP26; Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice-President, European Commission
The OECD Secretariat signed a declaration, joining 450 development banks at the Finance in Common Summit, the first global summit of Public Development Banks. The declaration affirmed banks’ willingness to collectively shift their strategies, investment patterns and operating modalities to align with sustainable finance principles and contribute to the achievement of the SDGs and the objectives of the Paris Agreement while responding to the Covid-19 crisis.
In the margins of the PPF, Mr. Angel Gurría also attended a special side-event on Business for Inclusive Growth (B4IG) Public-private partnership for an inclusive recovery, a high-level panel with other key speakers: Pascal Lamy, President of the Paris Peace Forum, Jean-Marc Ollagnier, CEO of Accenture in Europe and Kyril Courboin, Managing Director of J.P. Morgan Franc. The panel was moderated by Camille Putois, CEO of Business for Inclusive Growth (B4IG).
