At the USCIB Global Investment Conference in Washington A. Gurría announced that the OECD is considering the feasibility of a non-binding “Model Investment Treaty”, building on converging understandings in OECD and partner countries and invited other organisations to join these reflections.

Innovation allowed us to continuously increase our ability to produce food for growing populations and remains a key driver of poverty reduction in poor rural economies, according to OECD Secretary-General. But governments need to pay attention to policy issues such as regulation, intellectual property rights and public acceptance of new technologies in order to realise the full potential of existing knowledge.

During his meeting with the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, A. Gurría said that the recovery from the crisis should not be jeopardised by a premature withdrawal of support measures. Countries must continue with stimulus and to withdraw them only once recovery is assured.

During a workshop on climate change organised by the European Union, Mr Gurría reminded that "far from perfect, the Copenhagen Accord is a hard-fought political agreement". He added that the world now needs to find an ambitious and legally-binding global agreement on climate change in Mexico and that the EU should continue to play a leading role for the negotiations.
