Official visit of the Secretary-General to the People's Republic of China (Beijing, 21 - 26 March 2008)

 

During his first official visit to the People's Republic of China, Angel Gurría attended the 9th annual meeting of the China Development Forum: Towards 2020: Development Goals and Policy Options, and met with:

• Chen Deming, Minister of Commerce
• Zhou Shengxian, Minister of Environmental Protection
• Liu He, Vice Minister, Chair of the Office of the Central Leading Group for Financial and Economic Affairs

• Xie Fuzhan, Commissioner, National Bureau of Statistics
• Lou Jiwei, Chairman, China Investment Corporation
• Chen Zhu, Minister of Health
• Zhang Yutai, President, Development Research Center of the State Council and Wang Mengkui, Chairman, Board of Trustees, China Development Research Foundation

Mr. Gurría also gave two speeches at the China Development Forum: “Working in Partnership for a Harmonious Globalisation” and “Developing a Healthcare System Benefiting All”. On 25 March, he participated in the launch of Angus Maddison's book, Chinese Economic Performance in the Long Run (second edition, updated), and opened a seminar on the Latin American Economic Outlook organised by the Institute for Latin American Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
