Official visit of the Secretary-General to Canada (8-11 June 2008)


During his official visit to Canada, OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría attended the Conference of Montreal - the International Economic Forum of the Americas, and had bilateral meetings with representatives of the Governement of Quebec. He then went to Ottawa to meet with members of the Federal Government of Canada and to hold a press conference to launch both the OECD economic Survey of Canada and the report Jobs for Youth - Canada. The official programme is as follows:


In Montreal, he met with:

  • Mrs. Monique Jérôme-Forget, Finance Minister, Quebec
  • Ms. Yolande James, Minister of Immigration and Cultural Communities, Quebec
  • Dr. Paul Cappon, Président et Chef de la direction du Conseil Canadien sur l'Apprentissage (CCA)
  • Mr. Eric Noel, Vice-president North America, Oxford Analytica

Angel Gurría also delivered a speech at the Forum on Education and training: a primary source of sustainability and a keynote address at the Conference of Montreal on sustainable development and the challenge of natural resources management with a special focus on water.


In Ottawa, he met with:

  • Mr. Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development
  • Mr. James Flaherty, Minister of Finance
  • Mr. John Baird, Minister of the Environment
  • Mr. Mark J. Carney, Governor of the Bank of Canada

Finally, the OECD Secretary-General held a press conference for the release of the Economic Survey of Canada 2008 and the report Jobs for Youth - Canada (read his speech).
