Closing - OECD Champion Mayors for Inclusive Growth Initiative, 28 May 2021

Closing Remarks by Angel Gurría

OECD Secretary-General

Paris, 28 May 2021

Dear Champion Mayors, Excellencies, Friends:

Over the past week, Champion Mayors have discussed priorities for ensuring an inclusive recovery in cities. Thank you for your insights, your candour and your contributions. Inclusion is also a priority at the national level, and will be a key focus of next week’s OECD Ministerial Council Meeting, “Shared Values: Building a Green and Inclusive Future”.

Rising inequalities in cities were the impetus for starting the Champion Mayors Initiative five years ago. Thanks to your leadership and tireless efforts, inclusion and inclusive growth have become household terms.

As today’s meeting comes to a close, I want to share a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you. The past five years have been challenging, but you all persevered, never losing sight of your collective commitment to build a better future for us all. I look forward to seeing the Champion Mayors Initiative continue to strengthen and flourish in the coming years.
