OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría welcomes the signature of the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement (CETA)

31 October 2016 - “I congratulate Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, President of the European Council Donald Tusk, and President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker on the signature of the Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement (CETA).  The deal comes at a crucial time when slowing trade growth and low investment are contributing to the weakness of the global economy.

The CETA model helps shape a progressive and coherent approach to trade and investment. It can have a real impact in driving stronger and more inclusive growth, providing better job opportunities and ensuring higher living standards for more people.”

The OECD supports and contributes to a common goal of a freer and fairer world trading system. We see CETA having clear benefits for the people of Canada and Europe.”
