27/8/2016 - OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría welcomed the cease-fire between the Colombian government and FARC rebels, ending more than half a century of armed conflict.
“Peace is now in sight,” said Mr. Gurría. “This historic event will yield well-deserved social and economic dividends for Colombia. I have reached out to President Santos to congratulate him and his government on their unwavering determination to put this chapter of Colombian history behind them.”
Gurría said that the ceasefire will enhance Colombia’s accession process to the OECD, which was initiated in 2013. “I am convinced that this act of reconciliation will allow the country to stand taller economically. The OECD remains ready to support the people of Colombia as they fashion a better future for themselves.”
