Higher education institutions in Southern Arizona


There are five main institutions: 





The University of Arizona is closely engaged in regional development due to its mission as a “land-grant university”. It has a staff of 14 400 full- and part-time employees. The University of Arizona’s annual economic impact on the state’s economy is $2.3 billion. In 2006, University of Arizona-related economic activity generated about $7 for every dollar the university received from the state.

The University of Phoenix is a privately owned university which has campus locations all over the US. In Southern Arizona, there are five branches, where about 2 500 students are enrolled. It is specialised in educating non-traditional students who combine work and studies.

The Pima Community College is the major training center, and a support centre for small business development. It is the eighth-largest community college in the country with an annual enrolment of nearly 75 000 students.
