Located in the west of Sichuan Basin and in the center of Chengdu Plain, Chengdu covers a total area of 12.3 thousand square kilometres (4,749 square miles) with a population of over 11 million. Chengdu is the capital of China's southwestern Sichuan ("Four Rivers") province. It is one of the country's most important transportation and communication hubs.
Sichuan Province and the Chengdu region have long been the capital of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Today, with the onset of Western medicine in the country, Chengdu is a major pharmaceutical research and development center. Similarly, Chengdu's Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone increasingly attracts a variety of multinational and domestic companies.
Chengdu has one airport, the Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU), in the southwest of Chengdu City. It is about 20 kilometers (12 miles) from the center of Chengdu City.
The MOFCOM and Sichuan goverment will arrange airport pick-up for foreign participants.
