Modern antitrust analysis of mergers is sophisticated, challenging and complex: defining the relevant markets, asessing if the merging firms will have market power, analyzing the competitive effects of the transaction, and assessing and quantifying likely efficiencies are complex exercises central to the review of many mergers.
The OECD plays a key role in the development of common principles regarding the standard of review of mergers, filing requirements in international mergers as well as safeguards and more effective cooperation among competition authorities.
