The emergence of private initiatives for corporate responsibility – including the development of codes of conduct, management systems for improving compliance with these codes and non-financial reporting standards -- has been an important trend in international business over the last 30 years. OECD work in this area is part of broader efforts to support implementation of the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and to enhance the contribution of international investments to sustainable development.
