In the context of the preparation for the 4th OECD World Forum on Statistics, Knowledge and Policies that will take place in New Delhi on 16-19 October 2012, the High Commission of Planning of Morocco and the OECD Development Centre jointly organised the African Conference on ‘Measuring Well-Being and Fostering the Progress of Societies’, held on Thursday 19 to Saturday 21 April 2012 in Rabat at the Centre d’Accueil et de Conférences (CAC), Avenue Essanaoubar, Hay Riad.

The conference was held on 19 to 21 April 2012 in Rabat. Jointly organised by the OECD Development Centre and the High Commission for Planning of Morocco in collaboration with the OECD Statistics Directorate, The Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st Century (PARIS21), the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), it gathered around 250 regional policy makers, statisticians, academics and other stakeholders with a specific interest in the field.

11th International Economic Forum on Africa

The International Economic Forum on Africa, organised by the OECD Development Centre with the African Development Bank, the UN Commission for Africa and the UNDP has grown to become the largest annual public event on Africa in Europe. This year, the Forum celebrated its 11th anniversary with hundreds of journalists, business people, development co-operation professionals, researchers, civil society representatives and students coming together to hear and engage with a panel of experts discussing the findings of the African Economic Outlook (AEO).

African countries should develop closer cross-border ties in dealing with traditional and emerging partners so they can boost sustainable and inclusive growth, according to the African Economic Outlook 2011, launched today.

Africa´s economies have weathered the global crisis relatively well and have rebounded in 2010. Recent political events in North Africa and high food and fuel prices are likely to slow the continent’s growth down to 3.7 percent in 2011. During this year, sub-Saharan Africa will grow faster than North Africa. The new report predicts a rebound to 5.8 percent in 2012.
