Services have become the single largest sector in many economies. They not only provide the bulk of employment and income in many countries, they also serve as vital input for producing other goods and services. So an efficient services sector is crucial for the overall economy. As such, agreement on opening up services markets is key to the success of global trade talks. OECD work on trade in services aims to support a strong multilateral system for further trade liberalisation and strengthening of its rules, while contributing to rising standards of living and sustainable development.
