The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) and the OECD issued today a joint questionnaire on the corporate governance of insurers, aiming to obtain information on current practices in corporate governance of insurers and views on what might constitute good practices.
This questionnaire is addressed to supervisors, governments (non-supervisory), insurers, trade associations, and other parties.

This conference aims to promote international discussion on financial education among key stakeholders, especially in the context of the rapid changes in Asian economies, resulting in a wider array of financial services (often credit products) now being offered to a large number of inexperienced consumers. The Indonesian authorities have been paying close attention to issues related to financial literacy and education – having declared 2008 “the year of financial education”.

In March 2008, the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) published proposed changes to International Accounting Standard No. 19 (IAS 19). If enacted, the changes to IAS 19 proposed by the IASB are expected to have a significant impact on company financials on a global basis. The paper Recent Developments in Pension Accounting identifies and discusses some of the proposed changes, as well as, the likely impact these changes will have on exchange-listed companies reporting in accordance with IAS 19.

To help them, OECD countries have agreed new good practices on financial education relating to private pensions and insurance that call on governments and business to work together to improve financial literacy in order to give people the tools they need to secure their future.

OECD countries have agreed on further liberalisation commitments in the areas of insurance and private pensions. The OECD Code of Liberalisation of Current Invisible Operations has been amended to broaden the insurance obligations of the Code and introduce new obligations on private pensions, thereby establishing a new, high standard for cross-border trade in insurance and private pensions services.

The High Level Advisory Board of the OECD International Network on Financial Management of Large-Scale Catastrophes held its inaugural meeting at the OECD Headquarters (opening remarks by the OECD Secretary-General). The Network is a strategic forum for the discussion of key issues related to the financial management of large scale catastrophes at a global level, aiming to provide policymakers with state-of-the-art expertise and policy advice.
