DAC "peer reviews" (www.oecd.org/dac/peerreviews) constitute a central and unique OECD activity. The reviews monitor individual members' policies and efforts in the area of development co-operation. Each member is critically examined approximately once every four years; this way five or six programmes are examined annually. Consult the timetable for Peer Reviews here.

The Development Assistance Committee found Finland to be a committed development co-operation actor. Finland has signed up to the Paris Declaration, but needs to make sure that its proposals to make aid more effective and to increase coherence among policies that affect development bring real results. The Committee also urged Finland to stick to its target of allocating 0.7% of its gross national income to development assistance by 2015.

After rapid increases in recent years, Spain's official development assistance reached USD 3 813 million in 2006, making it the 8th largest donor by volume. The Development Assistance Committee commends Spain for its growing aid efforts and its commitment to more than double the share of its gross national income allocated to development assistance in 2012 to reach the UN target of 0.7%.

This year’s peer review of Canada’s development co-operation programme noted positive achievements including a promising whole-of-government approach to working with fragile states such as Haiti and Afghanistan, effective support to humanitarian action, a reconfirmed commitment to Africa and continued aid increases to meet commitments made in Monterrey.

The European Commission, on behalf of the European Community, disbursed some USD 10 billion in official development assistance (ODA) in 2006, making it the sixth largest donor amongst the members of the OECD’s Development Assistance Committee (DAC).
