Specialised work on government debt is carried out by the Working Party on Government Debt Management. This group constitutes a unique policy forum for government debt managers from OECD Member countries to exchange views and experiences in the field of government debt and government securities markets.

2nd OECD Regional Workshop on African Debt Management and Bond Markets

This event is part of the OECD Project on African Public Debt Management and Bond Markets, sponsored by the Icelandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The workshop is one component of an OECD policy dialogue with African countries on public debt management and government securities markets.

The agenda was compiled in consultation with African debt managers and in particular with the members of the OECD Steering Committee on African Debt Management and Bond Markets.


 

2nd OECD Forum on African Public Debt Management

The development of robust government bond markets, as well as sound debt management policies and practices, is increasingly important in avoiding unsustainable public debt.

The policy dialogue of this forum affords African debt managers, policymakers and government bond market officials an opportunity to enhance their understanding of these activities, providing access to the worldwide OECD-led global knowledge network of debt managers.

17th OECD Global Forum on Public Debt Management

Took place in Amsterdam on 11-12 December 2007, the 17th Annual Forum on Public Debt Management focused on price discovery in government bond markets, government debt in Asia 10 years after the crisis and credit risk management.

9th OECD-World Bank-IMF Global Bond Market Forum, 22-23 May 2007, Paris

The Ninth Annual OECD-World Bank-IMF Global Bond Market Forum was held at the OECD in Paris. "Derivatives markets" were a major focus of the meeting, including perspectives on the use of derivatives by debt managers, foreign investor participation in domestic bond and derivatives markets, and the importance of derivatives for primary dealer operations.

National Treasury of South Africa/OECD/Bond Exchange of South Africa Regional Workshop on African Debt Management and Bond Markets

This Regional Workshop was held in Johannesburg, complementing the first annual OECD Forum on African Public Debt Management and Bond Markets which was held in Amsterdam in December 2006.  Motivated by African countries, the workshop’s purpose was to disseminate the recommendations and conclusions from the OECD Forum to a wider audience of officials in Africa.

The Danish Government has just published the 2006 edition of "Danish Government Borrowing and Debt". The publication contains information on the basic principles behind the administration and describes the development in government borrowing and debt over the past year.
