The current crisis is the first of this severity to hit OECD countries, since they have shifted to knowledge-based service economies. As part of its strategic response to the economic crisis, the OECD has analysed the likely impact of the downturn on the drivers of long term economic growth & innovation and related items in policy responses as part of national stimulus packages.

This conference, to take place in Rochester, NY, USA, will aim to promote the concepts and practices of sustainable manufacturing among diverse businesses, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Leading academics and industry practitioners are expected to be among the speakers and panelists, along with high-level policy makers. The presentations and discussions will help the OECD to identify the needs for the future work in this area.

Responding to concerns of governments and the business community, this study develops and applies a rigorous methodology to estimate the incidence of counterfeit and pirated items in world trade. It suggests ways to develop information and analysis, and identifies a number of key areas that require the attention of policy makers.

Just published, this volume brings together several studies addressing the main areas of OECD work on the globalisation of value chains. The work has aimed to strengthen the evidence base on globalisation, which should ultimately enable the development of policies to address key concerns.
