The OECD is a global economic forum working with 36 member countries and more than 100 emerging and developing economies to make better policies for better lives. Our mission is to promote policies that will improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world. The Organisation provides a unique forum in which governments work together to share experiences on what drives economic, social and environmental change as well as seek solutions to common problems.
The mission of the Public Affairs and Communications Directorate (PAC) is to shape and share the OECD story to catalyse policy change. The OECD Tokyo Centre enlarges PAC outreach to the Asian’s region.

In order to strengthen Tokyo Centre’s press and public affairs activities, OECD Tokyo Centre is looking for interns who will work with the team based in Tokyo. The intern will provide essential support to Media team in Tokyo in line with the Communication Principles of PAC. S/he will work as a part of Tokyo Centre’s team and will liaise with media, governments, parliaments, academia and the private sector, under supervisors.

Through the experience, the intern will gain effective way of working as a team in the real world of the international organisation.

 

General objectives of the internship:

In line with key principles of PAC’s strategy, the intern indirectly will support the main principles:

  • Shifting from launch to campaigns
  • Listening and talking to the right people
  • Responding to the “geography of discontent”
  • “Civic tech” and public engagement
  • Shifting from books to tweets, vids, viz
  • Talking a language people understand
  • Getting to the top
  • Improving the use of impact evaluation

 

 Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to better use of impact evaluation by monitoring and evaluating press coverage on a daily basis
  • Support social media and website management in order to ensure that the OECD’s content is more findable, usable and sharable online by end-users in Japanese (= Getting to the top), while moving from books to tweets, videos, viz and using a language people understand
  • Assist in answering enquiries from journalists as well as the public to talk to the right audience by using a language people understand
  • Assist with logistic aspects of various events
  • Develop various communication materials
  • Assist with miscellaneous tasks and projects at OECD Tokyo Centre.

 

Positions:

  • Intern 1 (Early January – End of April)

Other requirements:

  • This position requires NATIVE LEVEL of Japanese fluency.  
  • Basically candidates should be able to work full time.

 

Candidates should be well organised, and meticulous in terms of keeping track of details. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a must. A positive approach with an ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment, and in a team, using initiative, tact and discretion are all qualities we are looking for. Interns will also need to have excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Sound knowledge and skills of social media is necessary. Candidates should be able to work full time from Monday to Friday. An interest to pursue a career in an international organisation such as OECD in the future and to improve economic and social well-being of people around the world is appreciated.

Candidates must be enrolled in a school or university and have a student status for the duration of the internship.

There is no salary and commuting allowances. The OECD will however provide interns with a contribution to living expenses according to the OECD’s guideline.
