Serbia joins the global community in tackling tax evasion through international tax cooperation

12/03/2018 – Serbia joins the international fight against tax evasion by becoming the 149th member of the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes. Members of the Global Forum already include all G20 and OECD countries, all international financial centres and many developing countries.

Serbia will participate in this intergovernmental forum on an equal footing, and is committed to implement two internationally agreed standards of transparency and exchange of information for tax purposes – exchange of information on request and automatic exchange of information

“The Global Forum is delighted to welcome Serbia and its commitment to tax transparency. All members of the Global Forum, as well as the Secretariat, are looking forward to work with Serbia to ensure effective implementation of the international tax standards for exchange of information and support its effort in mobilising domestic resources with an aim to meeting the sustainable development goals” said Maria-José Garde, Chair of the Global Forum.

The Global Forum is the leading multilateral body mandated to ensure that jurisdictions around the world adhere to and effectively implement the international tax transparency standards. This objective is achieved through a robust monitoring and peer review process which Serbia will also be subject to. The Global Forum also runs an extensive technical assistance programme to provide support to its members in implementing the standards and helping tax authorities to make the best use of cross-border information sharing channels.
