Global Forum launches the Induction Programme on Tax Transparency and Exchange of Information for Honduras

 

10/12/2019 - A high level team from the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes visited Tegucigalpa (Honduras) on 5 and 6 December, to launch the induction programme for Honduras, which became a member of the Global Forum in August 2019. The team comprising Dónal Godfrey, Deputy Head of the Global Forum Secretariat and Jose Mejía, Tax Advisor, held bilateral meetings with Ms Martha Vicenta Doblado, Minister of Government General Coordination; Ms Miriam Estela Guzmán, Minister-Director of the Internal Revenue Administration; Ms  Roxana Rodriguez, Deputy Minister of Finance; Ms Norma Allegra Cerrato Sabillón, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Mr José Adonis Lavaire, Commissioner of the National Commission of Banks and Insurance.

Minister Miriam Estela Guzmán, reaffirmed the importance Honduras places on the fight against tax evasion in raising domestic revenues and ensuring Honduras’ development. She welcomed the induction programme and conveyed the country’s resolve to take the appropriate steps to ensure that international tax cooperation is a priority in Honduras. Mr Godfrey assured Honduras of the support of the Global Forum in implementing the international standards of tax transparency and in benefitting from the more transparent global tax environment.

 

During the visit, a seminar on the Global Forum Standards was provided to the more than a 100 public officials and private sector representatives. Apart from creating awareness of with the international standards, the seminar focussed on Honduras’ benefits in implementing the tax transparency standards.

 

At the end of the mission, discussions were held on a roadmap for Honduras to implement the standard of exchange of information on request and automatic exchange of information.
