Assessor Training Seminar: 22-23 March 2010

The Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information held its inaugural Assessor Training Seminar in Paris this week.  This important event was attended by 34 experts from tax authorities in 25 jurisdictions from around the globe, who are the first trained assessors for the Global Forum’s program of intensive reviews of jurisdictions’ mechanisms for international exchange of information to combat international tax evasion.  This group represents the backbone of the Global Forum’s work to review jurisdictions’ implementation of the agreed international standard for the exchange of information for tax purposes.

The training seminar focussed on the key documents which underpin the Global Forum’s peer reviews:

This seminar involved a mixture of detailed presentations on the key documents and discussion of case studies.  At the conclusion of the seminar, participants said that it was a stimulating and informative program which also provided an opportunity to network and meet others who are involved in the international sharing of information for tax purpose.

This was the first in a series of Assessor Training Seminars.  A second training seminar will be held later in the year to expand the global network of experts trained and ready to participate in peer reviews for the Global Forum.
