The Governing Body of the Co-operative Research Programme hosted an open forum at its annual meeting on 11 December 2009 on agricultural research and how to respond to the needs of decision makers.

New opportunities (concepts, methods, tools) that agricultural research is offering to respond better to the issues of importance to decision makers in both the public and private sectors were examined.

Presentations were made by:

• Dr. Gary Fitt, Deputy Chief CSIRO Entomology, Australia on The Way Forward as presented at the CRP conference in Prague "Challenges for Agricultural Research"
• Dr. Michel Caboche, Director of Research INRA, Member of the French Academy of Science on Technologies for the Future
• Mr. Declan O'Brien, Managing Director, International Federation for Animal Health, Chair of the Global Animal Health European Technology Platform on New Opportunities in Animal Science
