Based on an analysis of links between settlement trends, markets and food security, the West African Futures programme provides policy makers and key stakeholders with a description of food security challenges that will need to be addressed in future policy and strategy design.


Sahel

Food security

Food security has been at the core of the Club's founding mission. The "Club du Sahel" was created by OECD countries in 1976 to raise international support for and awareness of the drought crises in the Sahel. Current work areas include:


Security and development

The increase in instability and the hybridization of trafficking and violence call for policies that link security and development. The underlying dynamics can no longer be confined to the West African region. Through a regional analysis, the SWAC Secretariat aims at promoting dialogue and improving the understanding of West African security issues in relation to Africa and OECD member countries.
