Summary record of the restricted RPCA meeting 8-9 April 2010
The Permanent Interstate Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS) and the Sahel and West Africa Club (SWAC/OECD) held a restricted meeting of the Food Crisis Prevention Network (RPCA) in the Sahel and West Africa from 8-9 April 2010 at the OECD Conference Centre in Paris.
This meeting provided West-African actors and key partners from OECD member countries with the opportunity to discuss issues related to food security.
RPCA Members confirmed unanimously that the Sahel region is facing a serious food and nutrition crisis. This analysis follows annual assessments of regional crop and food security, meetings of organizations responsible for food crisis management and prevention, as well as individual country appeals.
The RPCA recommended immediate and significant action and called upon states, West African regional integration organisations (UEMOA, CILSS, and ECOWAS) and their partners to take emergency measures.
