Objectives
Determine appropriate urban policies for freight transport, focusing on innovative solutions to minimise pollution, noise and congestion caused by freight transport.
Identify the impacts of new technologies and urban planning on the organisation of city logistics.
Establish best practices through a review of innovative approaches in OECD cities.
Key issues
Urban freight transport is a significant source of pollution, noise and congestion. New technologies, including advanced communication and information systems, are being introduced to facilitate the more efficient distribution of goods in urban areas. Local policies are the key to maximising the benefits of new technologies and urban developments.An examination of best practices would help to ensure urban areas remain a comfortable living environment, while also contributing to increased efficiency in urban freight distribution.
