The world economy has recently gone through its sharpest contraction since the 1940s. Information and communication technology industries and employment have also declined, but are now on a strong recovery path and have performed better than during the dotcom collapse of the early 2000s. Work has been undertaken to analyse the behaviour of the ICT supply side during the economic crisis and recovery.  This is divided into two parts:

• output, in particular compared with other sectors and the early 2000s;
• employment, also in comparison with other sectors and the early 2000s.
