The following paper gives a detailed description of how the UK Office for National Statistics completely reengineered their statistical production processes which has saved costs and enabled improvements in timeliness for the short-term economic statistics they produce.  It describes a large number of new technologies that were introduced and how staff resources have been reorganised within more efficient workgroups.
