OECD Composite Leading Indicators (CLIs): Historical Data and Methodological Information - Updated: May 2010

Latest news release: (10/05/10)

Tables and Graphs: every composite leading indicator for 29 OECD member countries and 6 major non-member economies.

Data: CLI data is available in various forms via OECD.Stat. The data can be viewed and downloaded as amplitude adjusted CLI, as trend restored CLI or year-on-year growth rate of the trend restored CLI. The reference series corresponding to each CLI are also made available. Additionally, OECD.Stat contains description and methodological information related to the time series.

In February 2010, the OECD reviewed the CLI for 8 countries (Brazil, China, Indonesia, Ireland, Korea, the Slovak Republic, Switzerland, the Russian Federation). In doing so, some component series have been dropped or replaced. As a consequence, chronology of turning points of the CLIs as well as component series have been revised. Download further details on the change (PDF).

The methodology used to compile OECD CLIs and reference series trend is described in the following document: "OECD system of Composite Leading Indicators".

For a better interpretation of OECD CLI consult the following document: Interpreting OECD Composite Leading Indicators (CLI).

The OECD has developed CLIs for the major six OECD non-member economies (Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Russian Federation and South Africa) monitored by the organisation and six recently new OECD member countries (Korea, New Zealand, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovak Republic). CLIs for above countries were released for the first time in April 2006. A technical paper which outlines the procedures used for compiling the CLIs for the twelve new countries can be downloaded here.

In December 2002, for 16 countries, the OECD updated the reference chronology of turning points of the CLIs as well as the chronology of turning points for component series. At the same time, some component series have been dropped or replaced. Download the Update
