OECD Composite Leading Indicators fall to lowest levels since 1970s

06/02/2009 - OECD composite leading indicators (CLIs) for December 2008 continue to point to a weakening outlook for all the major seven economies. The CLIs in most OECD countries have fallen to levels that were last seen during the oil shocks of the 1970s. The outlook has significantly deteriorated in the major non-OECD member economies who are now also facing strong slowdowns. etc.

The methodology used, starting from December 2008, to compile OECD CLIs and reference series trend is described in the document: "OECD system of Composite Leading Indicators". Up to December 2008, the methodology used by the OECD is described in "OECD Composite Leading indicators: a tool for short-term analysis".

The next publication date of the OECD's CLI will be on 6 March 2009.
