REMOVAL OF THE FIELD "A16_code" FROM THE CSV FILE |
As from next month the field "A16_code" will be removed from the MEI
database. It will no longer be in the CSV file which will as from March 2005
only contain the following fields: • Series code: a string composed of a country code, a subject code and a measure code. • Country: the name of the corresponding country or area total. • Subject hierarchy: a string containing the position of the time series in the logical organisation of subjects. • Title: a string containing the English title of the time-series. • Power of ten: the number 3 signifies that the data in the printed publication are expressed in thousands, 6 means that the data are in millions, 9 in billions etc. The number is the power of ten needed to multiply the figures to obtain the data in units. • Unit: unit in which the series is expressed in the printed publication. When data are exported from the CSV file they should be multiplied by the corresponding power of ten. • Data and control codes: value and qualifier. Values are expressed in the corresponding unit. The following is an example of a time series record corresponding to the description: "Series code", "country", "subject hierarchy", "Series title", "power of ten", "unit", "1960", "control code", "1961", "control code", "AUS.BPBLIN01.NCCUSA", "AUSTRALIA", "Balance of Payments/Current Account Balance/Income/Total", "AUS BOP NET INCOME SA", 6, "$A", 247, "",250, "",

NEW TURKISH LIRA |
On 01 January 2005 the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey introduced the
New Turkish Lira (TRY) to replace the Turkish Lira (TRL), with one New Turkish
Lira- TRY- being equivalent to one million TRLs. In other words, six zeros have
been removed from the old currency to help make the new currency more manageable
for everyone. All relevant Turkish series in the MEI are now presented using the
new currency - TRY.

SEASONAL ADJUSTMENTS |
New seasonal adjustments by OECD are generally carried out once a year, when the December figure is available. Revisions to individual series due to new seasonal adjustments by national source or by OECD are not signalled in this note. |
