SEASONAL ADJUSTMENTS
|
New seasonal adjustments by OECD are generally carried out once a year, when the December figure is available.
Revisions to individual series due to new seasonal adjustments by national source or by OECD are not signalled in this note. |
CHANGE TO BASE YEAR 2000
|
The OECD standard base
year used for the presentation of indices has changed from 1995 = 100 to 2000
= 100 for this July 2004 release of the MEI dataset. For country series, this
change only affects the level of indices previously published, but has no
impact on historical growth rates. The level of Composite Leading Indicator
series has also changed due to the change in base year for the reference
series (i.e. index of industrial production). For OECD main country grouping
series (e.g. OECD-Total, OECD-Europe, Major seven, EU 15, Euro area), the
level of the published indices has changed and there is also a slight revision
to growth rates from 2000 onwards due to the use of year 2000 based weights to
combine countries data (i.e. in place of year 1995 based weights).
In addition, the length of
series published for OECD main country groupings and the groupings themselves
have being reviewed. As a result, all 'OECD - former' and ‘OECD excluding
high inflation’ country groupings have been discontinued, and the historical
time series for OECD-Total and OECD-Europe country groupings has been
extended. The attached
spreadsheet
July 04 changes.xls contains a list of all changes to OECD main country
grouping series, indicating series which have been discontinued and where
continuing series have had changes made to their subject codes. The
spreadsheet also contains other changes to country series made for the July
2004 dataset.
