Poverty in Israel: Almost one in five people in Israel lives in poverty – i.e. in a household with income less than half of the national median. A number of factors are behind this, but one of the most important is that many people in Israel don’t work: about 40% of people of working age have no jobs, compared to about 33% in OECD countries.
