Minister for Workforce Participation

Peter Dutton was appointed Federal Minister for Workforce Participation following the October 2004 election.

As Minister for Workforce Participation, Mr Dutton is responsible for the Job Network, Disability Employment Services, Work for the Dole and improving transition to work opportunities for all unemployed Australians.

Prior to entering Parliament in November 2001 as the Member for the Queensland seat of Dickson, Mr Dutton was an officer in the Queensland Police Service for nine years and later managed his family’s small business. Mr Dutton attended the Queensland University of Technology and holds a degree in Business.

In Parliament, Mr Dutton has pursued a wide range of social and economic issues, including serving on the House of Representative Standing Committees on Employment and Workplace Relations, and Family and Community Services and the Joint Committee on the Australian Crime Commission.

Mr Dutton joined the Liberal Party in 1989 and has held senior positions within the party.
