Joe Butler

Joe Butler is Technology Director for Radio Spectrum Policy at Ofcom, the UK media and communications regulator, where he is responsible for forward looking technology policy development as well as directing Ofcom’s technical work related to spectrum. He is involved in a range of projects and programmes at Ofcom, including spectrum awards such as the UK 800MHz and 2.6GHz awards for 4G mobile communications and white space device policy.

Joe has worked in technology development, with a focus on wireless and communications, for the last fifteen years. Prior to Ofcom Joe worked at a number of technology focused startup companies where he led the research and development teams.

Joe has a PhD from University College London in wireless systems and signal processing, and has a first degree in Physics.
