Allan Bell
Treasury Minister, Isle of Man

The Honourable Allan Bell, Member of the House of Keys (MHK) is the Treasury Minister for the Isle of Man Government.  Minister Bell has held this position since December 2001.

During his tenure as Treasury Minister Mr. Bell has overseen and initiated both the strong growth of the Island’s economy and its diversification.  Minister Bell has led the effort to have the Island’s economy continually ‘AAA’ rated by both Standard and Poors and Moody’s. He has successfully overseen the continued growth of the Island’s banking, financial services, and insurance industries; he has overseen the successful initiation of film and on-line gaming industries on the Island and has been at the forefront in developing the Island’s Space Industry.  Minister Bell and his team at the Treasury have also worked tirelessly in raising the profile and reputation of the Isle of Man as a 'well regulated' international financial centre, leading to its inclusion on the G20 'White List'.  In October 2005 Minister Bell signed a ground breaking tax information exchange with the Netherlands. Since then he has signed further agreements with the Nordic Council countries, Ireland, Germany, Australia, Estonia and the UK.

Mr. Bell first won election to the House of Keys in 1984, and joined Government in 1986.  Since then he has held the Ministerial positions of Tourism and Leisure, Industry, and Home Affairs.

Minister Bell was born on the Isle of Man on July 20th 1947, and was educated at Ramsey Grammar School.  Prior to being elected, his career spanned banking, accountancy and retailing.
