Business leader Sophie de Menthon has always been involved in community life with a view to promoting private enterprise.
At the age of 21, she set up her first telephone marketing company “Multilignes Conseil”, which she ran until 2004.
In 1979, she launched the first Telephone Marketing Syndicate (SMT) and drew up a code of practice that still governs the profession today, in France and many European countries.
In 1995, she was appointed Chair of ETHIC (Entreprises de taille Humaine Indépendantes et de Croissance), a federation of growing independent businesses that remain “on a human scale”. Here, she introduced the idea of reconciling the French with the world of business and in 2003 launched “La Fête des Entreprises” (Day of Celebration for Business) on the theme J’aime ma boîte! (I love my company!), which takes place every year in October.
Sophie de Menthon currently takes part in two radio programmes, “Les Grandes Gueules” on RMC and “Good Morning Business” on BFM.
At publishers Gallimard Jeunesse she writes and edits a collection of children’s books known as “Le monde d’aujourd’hui expliqué aux enfants” (Today’s world explained to children) where she has already published “L’entreprise” (The Company), “La politique” (Politics), “L’argent” (Money) (winner of the Youth Press Prize in 2007), “La police” (The Police), “Le supermarché” (The Supermarket), “La justice” (The Law), “La publicité” (Advertising) and “L’Europe” (Europe).
In 2007, she became a Colonel in the Citizen’s Reserve Corps, attached to the Officers of the National Gendarmerie.
She has been made a Commander of the National Order of Merit, and Knight of the Order of the Legion of Honour.
