Augustin de Romanet, who was born in 1961, is a graduate of the Paris Institute of Political Science and an alumnus of the Ecole Nationale d’Administration (1986 – promotion Denis Diderot). Mr de Romanet began his career in the French civil service, in the Budget Directorate of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance. In 1990, he was appointed Financial attaché at the French Permanent Representation to the European Union at Brussels.
In 1995, Mr de Romanet was appointed chief of staff to François d’Aubert, the French State Secretary responsible for the Budget, then budgetary advisor to Alain Lamassoure, Minister of the Budget, and also special advisor to Jean Arthuis, Minister of the Economy, Finance and Industry.
He joined the investment firm Oddo et Cie as Director in 1999 and was managing partner at Oddo Pinatton Corporate from 2000 to 2002. In May 2002, Mr de Romanet became chief of staff to Alain Lambert, Minister responsible for the Budget and Budget Reform, and deputy chief of staff to Francis Mer, Minister of the Economy, Finance and Industry. From April to September 2004, he was chief of staff to Jean-Louis Borloo, Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Cohesion. In September 2004, he was named deputy chief of staff to Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin. In June 2005, Mr de Romanet served as Deputy Secretary-General to the French Presidence.
In 2006, Augustin de Romanet was appointed Deputy Director, Finance and Strategy, at Crédit Agricole S.A. and member of the Executive Committee.
Chairman and Chief executive officer of Caisse des Dépôts (since march 7, 2007). Mandates in Caisse des Dépôts group : chairman of the Strategic Investment Fund’s Board of Directors, chairman of the Supervisory Board of SNI; Member of the Supervisory Board of CNP Assurances, member of the boards of Directors of Icade and CDC Entreprises. Other mandates: member of the Supervisory Board of Veolia Environnement, Dexia. Member of the Conseil des Prélèvements Obligatoires.
Chevalier de l’Ordre National de la Légion d’honneur et médaillé de la Défense nationale. Mr de Romanet is married and has three children.
