Lawyer, publicist, Member of the Italian Parliament since 1992, Minister of Agriculture in 2000, Minister of the Environment, Land and Sea in 2006; promoter of laws against the ill-treatment of animals, in favour of the young  entrepreneurs; promoter of the reform of the agrarian syndicate, the protection of genuinity label of olive oil produced in Italy; launcher of the reform of the Italian agriculture.
Publications: “Il principio di precauzione” (“The precautionary principle”) in cooperation with Grazia Francescato and “Le vie dell’acqua” (“The water ways”)  with Maurizio Montalto and the preface of Alex Zanotelli.
