Dr John F Avery Jones CBE.  Since 2002 a full-time Special Commissioner and VAT and Duties Tribunal Chairman hearing tax appeals of all types in the UK. 

Previously a practicing solicitor specialising in tax. Visiting professor, London School of Economics, consulting editor (and former editor) British Tax Review, member of the Steering Committee of the Tax Law Rewrite, member (and past chairman) of the Tax Law Review Committee, member (and former Chairman) of the Board of Trustees of the IBFD, former chairman of the British Branch of IFA, past President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, and author of many articles on taxation particularly on tax treaties.
